Lonely Hawk Studio is a rural-based Recording Studio and Rehearsal Space in Kumeu, NorWest Auckland just a 20min drive from Auckland CBD, just down the road from Kumeu/Huapai village (just a few minutes drive), and the Famous Kumeu Film Studios.
What started as a home studio in a sleep-out in Suburban Grey Lynn over 15 years ago, has evolved into a large, classy Studio in Kumeu,
with a large array of high-quality audio equipment as well as an impressive array of backline equipment such as Amps, Guitars, Piano, and Mellotron.
The Studio and Band Room are well soundproofed and acoustically treated as well as air-conditioned.
Designed as a relaxed space for creating and recording your band or solo project with a large live room (48m2) with a high ceiling, excellent for helping to capture that great drum sound.
Lonely Hawk Studio is perfect as a medium-range affordable project studio.
BEN FURNISS
Engineer/Producer
With a background in songwriting and producing as well as being accomplished on Guitar, Bass, Vocals, Keyboards and even a bit of drumming, it was a natural step to create a space to write and record his own music as well as with others.
Playing in many bands over the last 40 years with as diverse genres as Alt-Country and Folk to Psychedelic Surf rock, Ben has also recorded and produced his own projects as well as recording with Auckland Band 'Shady Brain Farm' and Australasian Duo 'Furniss Brothers' as a member of both.

Lonely Hawk Studio will acknowledge the acceptance of booking confirmation by email or text. Any cancellation must be given by email or text within 48 hours notice of the confirmed date. If Lonely Hawk Studio cancel a session due to illness, emergency or any other resonable cause, the studio will reschedule the session at the earliest possible time convenient to the clients needs.
RATES
Lonely hawk studio's hourly rate is $90/hr (not GST registered).
This includes a studio engineer provided by Lonely Hawk Studio who provides services such as digital sound recording, mixing, mastering, transferring, emailing/airdropping of files, and any other related service as requested.
- CDR copies of recordings $10 each
- Hirage/usage of studio instruments negotiable
- Studio Hire for rehearsal $100 for 4 hours with PA
- Studio dry hire $45/hr Min. of 4 Hours (longer projects are negotiable)

REFUNDS
Unless there is a Technical fault with the recording,
Lonely Hawk Studio does not offer refunds
(apparent dissatisfaction with a recording does not constitute a technical fault).
TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Please take time to read the following prior to booking:
Lonely Hawk Studio is a purpose-built recording/rehearsal
studio based in rural Kumeu.
All persons are expected to act respectfully and peacefully at all times to the staff, guests, and visitors while on site.
Any persons may asked to leave if involved in any of the following:
-Wilful damage to any part of the interior/exterior of the building
-Wilful damage to studio and hired equipment
-Physical/verbal abuse
Lonely Hawk Studio is smoke/vape free and ask that you do that outside.
WORKING ON SITE
If you are showing Flu/Covid/virus symptoms, you are required to contact Lonely Hawk Studio prior to a booked session and either cancel or reschedule when you are no longer showing symptoms.
STUDIO TIME
Studio time includes set-up time, breakdown time
and breaks taken by the client or sound engineer.
The sound engineer is entitled to 15 minutes break every 2 hours to relieve 'ear fatigue'; one 30-minute meal break per 7-hour session.
HOURS
Generally, hours are between 9 am and 5 pm.
This may negotiated with the client based
on the project and the availability of the sound engineer.
Afternoon/night sessions not to be later than 10pm.
DAMAGE AND LOSS
Lonely Hawk Studio is not responsible for loss
or damage of all recording media, multi-tracks,
final mixes, and any other media and
storage devices and instruments owned by the client,
and left or stored in studio premises.
Lonely Hawk Studio shall endeavour to secure these items.
FILE STORAGE AND MULTITRACKS/STEREO FILES
It is highly recommended that the client informs the Sound Engineer at the beginning of the first session what their intention is with the recording, eg. whether it is for demo purposes, personal, or for commercial release.
The intention will help the sound engineer make recording decisions.
After and during each session the client's project files will be backed up to the hard-drive and back-up drive.
From time to time older files/projects may be deleted from the hard-drive. Lonely Hawk Studio will endeavor to contact the clients of these project files prior to deletion.
Recordings will be released at the end of each session as required by the client for review purposes in Stereo WAV. and/or MP3. file formats.
Final recordings will also be released in Stereo WAV. and/or MP3. file formats.
Multi Track/Raw Files/Stem files will not be released unless informed prior to the first session that further recording, mixing or tracking is not required by Lonely Hawk Studio (It is common now for clients to complete their projects on their laptops at home once the drums are recorded). In this case, if Multi Track/Raw Files/Stem files are the only requirement, then once transferred to the client they will be deleted off the Lonely Hawk Studio hard-drive.
OWNERSHIP AND COPYRIGHT
It is expected that the client either owns the copyright or has obtained the correct license/permissions to the songs/music/content, that the client intends to record, if it is intended for commercial release.
